1977 DATSUN 280Z ZZZAP EDITION-Thumbnail

Back in 1977, the video game industry was just beginning to take its first steps. However, Datsun had a stroke of foresight that year when it introduced a special edition of its 280Z sports car, cleverly combining it with an arcade video game. Thus, the 280Z ZZZAP Edition was born, accompanied by an arcade cabinet bearing the same name. While the game itself may not have stood the test of time, the 280Z ZZZAP Edition certainly has. Limited to a production run of 1,000 units, these cars donned a striking Code 411 Sunburst Yellow paint, adorned with iconic ’70s graphics on the sides and hood. The cars also featured rear window louvers and a single black racing stripe accentuated by a touch of red. Among the surviving examples, the car showcased here stands as one of the finest, showcasing its originality with period-correct Ansen mag wheels and a Pioneer cassette player. This exceptional automobile is set to go up for auction at Mecum’s highly anticipated August 2023 event, taking place in Monterey, California.
